Texas Special Session Wrap-Up: An Hemp Industry Update
Texas’ second special legislative session concluded last week without banning hemp-derived cannabinoids, including those containing low doses of THC. The proposed Senate Bill 6, which would have outlawed all hemp products with detectable cannabinoids except for CBD and CBG, failed to advance in the House. The session concluded without any changes to the law for most hemp-derived products on the market today.
Instead, Senate Bill 2024, which took effect on September 1, 2025, prohibits the sale and marketing of any vape products containing cannabinoids, including CBD and THC.
During a bill-signing ceremony last Friday, Governor Greg Abbott hinted at the possibility of calling a third special legislative session, saying “stay tuned on that, something may be happening soon” when asked by a reporter whether unresolved items like hemp regulation might be revisited in the near future.
While these developments are a good sign, Governor Abbott’s last comment means that the debate over hemp’s therapeutic benefits is not over in the state of Texas. Consumers and the legal hemp industry must remain vigilant and willing to educate about hemp’s benefits.
Healthier Alternatives to Vaping Include Edibles & Tinctures
While the new ban on cannabinoid vapes will come as a disappointment to many consumers who relied on these devices for relief and relaxation, it’s worth remembering that vaping is not risk-free. Studies have linked cannabis vaping to increased respiratory symptoms, cardiovascular issues, and inflammation in the lungs, raising concerns about long-term safety.
Thankfully, there are safe and effective alternatives that avoid the risks associated with inhaling vapor or smoke. CBD edibles and CBD tinctures provide a safer way to experience the soothing and wellness benefits of hemp. These methods bypass the lungs entirely, offering controlled dosing and steady absorption without compromising respiratory health. As the legal landscape continues to shift, consumers in Texas can look to these proven alternatives as a reliable path toward hemp-based wellness.
